I had really high expectations of doing a thankful tree this year, but the actual tree never made it up. We did, however, follow through with naming something we were thankful for each day. I made little pieces of paper to fit into our countdown calendar pockets and we wrote one thing Addi was thankful for each night after dinner. I was proud that we actually remembered to do it!
Here is what Addi's completed list looked like:
1. olivia
2. baby halle
3. mommy & daddy
4. lulu & poppy
5. bailey
6. maddie the dog
7. my lovie
8. milk
9. medicine
10. my little lamp (aka night light)
11. mimi & papa
12. my rocking chair
13. trevor & jackie
14. my room
15. cornbread
16. my house
17. dance class
18. my big girl bed
19. my boomer sooners
20. music
21. my friends at school
22. eating at mazzio's
23. going to ardmore
24. thanksgiving
It took a few days but I think she finally caught on and understood what it meant to be thankful for something or someone. Once I started explaining it, I realized that it's kind of a hard concept for them to understand. I loved watching her face as she thought hard about what she was thankful for each night. It was a fun activity and we'll definitely do this again next year!
