passed out

Last weekend after Meg's birthday party, we came home and at lunch and then it was nap time.  Addi really didn't want to take a nap and after I left her room, I saw on the video monitor that she got out of bed.  I heard her in there for a few minutes moving around and typically she'll just sit and read a book or two and then crawl back in bed.  Well after about 20 minutes or so it got quiet and I checked the monitor again, expecting to see her, but she wasn't in bed.  I went to her door and cracked it open enough to peek inside and this is what I saw:

Yep, she was doing puzzles and just fell asleep right on her floor.  I literally laughed out loud and then grabbed the camera.  Thankfully neither one woke her up and she slept there for over an hour.  She ended up waking up and putting herself back in bed, but she was on the floor for a long time.  I'm so glad I got a picture of this!

magnet board

Before Christmas, Trevor built this awesome magnet board for Addison's bedroom.  I always have these "great ideas" but can't ever make them happen because I'm either not handy enough, not strong enough or a combination of the two.  Well Uncle Trevor is both handy and strong, so he helped me out!

I just bought roof flashing at our local lumber yard and Trev mounted it to wood and finished it off with white molding.  Now, it was a little more involved than that, but that's the gist of it!

So here's the finished product!

It's great for displaying her school art projects and for playing with her magnet letters.

The edge needed to be finished off and I took the lazy way out.  Instead of painting it, I just hot glued some ribbon on it.  It looks great and was easy on my part!

Thanks Uncle Trevor!!

chicken and wild rice soup

Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Ingredients:
2 boxes Uncle Ben's Long Grain Wild Rice
3 c. chicken broth
2-3 cooked chicken breasts
Diced carrots and celery (optional)
1/2 c. cream
1/2 c. milk (adjust to desired consistency)

Directions:
Cook 2 boxes of rice (original) with seasoning according to package directions.  When the rice is done, add 3 cups of chicken broth and cubed cooked chicken.  You may also add diced carrots and celebry if you like.  Add cream (I used fat-free half & half) and milk.  You can adjust the milk to more or less depending on the consistancy you would like.  Cook on low until hot throughout.

meg is 2

Our sweet friend, Meg, turned two and we helped her celebrate Saturday moring, Minnie-Style!

She had the cutest party!  The kids all came in their jammies and it was story time with Miss Susan from the public library and breakfast treats!  They served Mickey pancakes and had a pancake buffet, complete with fruit, whipped cream, sprinkles and more!  There were also donuts, muffins and sausage balls.  Such a clever idea!

Here's Miss Susan during story time!

Addi wasn't too sure at first, but she couldn't help but love it!  She stood back for a while and ate her Minnie Mouse cake pop,

Shaking the wiggles out!

Enjoying her donut...pink sprinkles, of course!

And here's the Birthday Girl!!  She was on the move the entire party so I didn't get a picture of Addi and Meg together, except opening presents.

Bubbles with Miss Susan.

We obviously need to work on birthday party etiquette with Addi.  She thought she needed to open Meg's gifts, especially the one she brought.  Oh brother!

Addi snatched up Cooper and held him hostage by the play kitchen.  At one point she said, "Cooper sit here for the tea party."

Poor Coop!  I guess since he's going to have a baby sister, he should just get ready for a bossy girl telling him to have tea parties!

He was a great sport and played along though.  Especially since he could bring his monser truck!

Meg with her Minnie cake!

Happy Birthday Meg!!

snow day and special delivery

Last Thursday we had a snow day and Addi's school was closed, as well as OU.  We literally didn't get out of our jammies all day long.  It just so happened that we got a special delivery on the front porch too! Addi was so excited to open it up!

It's from LuLu and Poppy!! What is it??

A Mickey and Minnie mailbox for Valentine's Day!!

And Skittles!!!

Addi had a GREAT time spreading the pink shredded paper all over the kitchen!  Thanks Mom.

Mickey and Minnie Valentine cards and stickers!!

There's more...

Potty Time Elmo DVD!

Ironically, she was in big girl panties again so this was perfect timing!  It was freezing so I didn't want her running around with bare legs, so we got the baby legs back out.  It's a good look, don't you think?

I just couldn't resist the temtation to snap this picture.  Seriously, how cute is that hiney???

Thanks for the Valentine's Day goodies LuLu and Poppy!!

can't miss tilapia

Well I had a great picture of this meal, but I can't seem to find it.  You'll just have to use your imagination!

Can't Miss Tilapia

Ingredients:
4 tilapia fillets
1 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 c. chopped onions
1 green (or red) bell pepper, chopped
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, melted
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Season fish with salt and pepper on both sides.  Spread onions and peppers in the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish and place fish on top.  Pour butter on top of the fish and sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce.  Bake for 12 minutes or until fish is cooked through.  Remove from oven and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  Place under broiler for about 2 minutes or until cheese browns.  Remove from dish and serve over rice with peppers and onions on top.

birdfeeders

Last weekend Addi and I made Pinecone Birdfeeders.  We went shopping on Saturday morning and bought the birdseed at the grocery store.

While she was taking her nap, I got everything set up.  She was so excited when she woke up!

First, you need peanut butter.

And then you need pinecones. I went ahead and tied the wire to them.

I just wrapped them around the center "core".

Then you need birdseed.  I dumped some in a large tupperware container and let her use a measureing cup as her scoop.

All set up and ready to go!

She didn't waste any time once she woke up!  She got right to work!
Spread the peanut butter on the pinecones.

Guess who liked to lick the peanut butter off the plastic knife??

Then you put the pinecones in the birdseed and roll them around. You can also use the scoop to help cover evenly.

Next find a great tree to hang them in.  We have the perfect Japanese Maple Tree in the front yard.  We now have 3 pinecone birdfeeders haning proudly!

Scott had never heard of making these birdfeeders and I thought every kid in America had made them at one point in their childhood.  Guess I have Judy Riley to thank for my birdfeeder experience!!

Hope you can make one soon!

i'm lovin' it

It's been a while since I've shared what I've been lovin' so here it goes!

1. Mishu Chalkboard Sticker:
I got this in October and loved it so much I decided to give it to a few people on my list for Christmas so I've had to keep this one quiet.  HERE is the website. I have it on the door going to our garage and I absolutely love it!  If you're in the Norman area, I got mine at Tulips!

2. Aladdin Tumbler
Well, Liz got me hooked on this one.  They sell them at Target.  They are great to fill and leave on your nightstand without the risk of knocking it over in the middle of the night (I've done that a time or two!).  I like that it keeps your drink cold and it doesn't sweat!

3. Jo Tote
I received a Jo Tote camera bag.  How cute is that?!?  The lining is black and white houndstooth and it has several velcro dividers which makes it very versatile!  I've used it as a purse/diaper bag/camera bag and it's just perfect!! This is the color I got too...I love it!

4. January
I actually have a love/hate relationship with January and February.  It's so cold and you really can't get out of the house and do much.  However, it's the perfect opportunity to clean out and organize!  I always pull out my organizing books to get inspiration and ideas!

I also love January magazines because most of them have to do with organizing!

Have you ever picked up a copy of the Better Homes and Gardens Storage Magazine?  They are wonderful!  There are only a few published a year, but I hang on to mine and use them just like I use my books each year.

I've been working really hard on getting our guest room/my project room cleaned out and ready for Miss Addison's big girl bedroom, so I especially need inspiration this January!!

So...what have you been lovin' lately???
