busy threes halloween party

Addison's Halloween party was a blast!  I was put in charge of bringing fruit.  I wanted to jazz it up a bit (HUGE eye roll from Scott) so I decided to make boo-k-bobs. 

 I used plastic swizzle sticks from Target (because I figured bamboo skewers and 3 year olds would surely be a disaster!).

I also found these really great candy eyes at Target.  Perfect!

Ta-Da!

I put marshmallows on top with the eye candies and scary faces (this one is saying, "O") they uses blue berries and strawberries as the fruit.  Each k-bob was in a cup of Cool Whip with sprinkles.  

They were a  hit!

When I got to school for the party the kids were still down in Spanish which gave the parents time to get the party ready and actually look around the room.  I loved the hand print spiders!

I heard them coming down the hall so I poked my head out the door and when Addi saw me she came running.  It made my day!!

We got her all dressed in her costume and ready for the trick-or-treat parade!

We skipped the Toddlers and Babbling Babies because they were taking morning naps.

The first Halloween party of the year was Addison's dance class party.  The week before Halloween they all came in their costumes and brought treats.  They danced for the first half of class and then partied.  What a fun way to celebrate!

I threatened Addi with her life if she got her leotard dirty!  I had to hand sew the sequins on and I was afraid they would fall off if I had to wash it!  She did a really great job eating over her plate and not wiping her hands on her leotard!  Good job Addi!

Our family and close friends know that Addison is not a sleeper.  She's a great napper, but she never stays asleep all night long.  We were hopeful that having her tonsils and adenoids removed would help, but it didn't.  When I say she doesn't sleep through the night, I mean she's tapping on my face while I'm asleep 3-5 times a night.  Scott is a very sound sleeper (lucky!) so I'm usually the one up with her.

Here's an example of what took place early one morning...about 4:45 to be exact:

(tap, tap, tap on my face...and keep in mind I'd already been up with her two times in the night...

Addi whispers:  Mama?

me still asleep: What?

Addi whispers: Here's a pencil for you.

me more awake: WHAT?

Addi whispers: I said, here's a pencil for you.

me totally awake: Where on earth did you get a pencil???

Addi still whispering: On the kitchen table.

me: WHY were you in the kitchen???

Addi still whispering: I don't know.

me: GO. TO. BED. NOW!

addi still whispering: okay. 

That was the last straw.  The VERY last straw.

I got on amazon and ordered the OK to Wake alarm clock.

It changed my life.

The parents can set the clock to glow green at a certain time.  When they see the green light they know it's OK to Wake.  Every now and then she'll still come wondering in our room, but I just ask if her green light is on and when she says no, I tell her to go back to sleep.  She's really proud of it too and likes to show everyone her big girl alarm clock.  I like it because the alarm doesn't sound so on the off chance they sleep in, they aren't disturbed.  

toasted pumpkin seeds

The  best part of carving pumpkins is toasting the seeds, right?

Ingredients:

1 c. pumpkin seeds

1 T. olive oil

1 t. Lowry's Seasoned Salt

Directions:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.  Combine ingredients and spread seeds in a single layer on a cookie sheet.  Bake for about 30 minutes.  Once cooled they will store in an air-tight container for several day, but they're best right out of the oven!
