We had a big weekend!

We had so much fun last weekend. On Friday night, Addison and I went to the golf course with Scott. Addison loved sitting on the greens while Scott putt and she also loved driving the golf cart...oh great!

On Saturday night we went to Charleston's for dinner and Addison sat in the restaurant highchair for the first time. It was just like riding in the shopping cart at Target...it was a whole new world! Despite bumping her head on the table a few times, she had a great time! She even ate "puffs" while we had dinner. She getting to be such a big girl!!

Shop 'til you drop...

This was actaully taken on March 22nd and was Addison's first ride like a big girl in the shopping cart...we're at Target of course! Sorry it's a little grainy, it was taken on my blackberry. Addison was in a whole new world sitting up and looking around. Now she's a pro and loves to "talk" to everyone she sees!

February 2009

Dear Addison,

You have changed so much in just one month. As Miss Peg says, you are one precocious little girl! You always have to be doing what the other “big boys” are doing at daycare. You want to play with them instead of taking your naps! You have really found your voice lately and Peg had to move your bed from the dining room to the living room because you were waking up Charlie during his nap! You are so alert and aware. Your eyes follow every movement and track even far away objects. You’ve rolled over once for me, but Daddy hasn’t seen it yet, so he doesn't believe me! You are the master of escaping from your swaddle blanket(s). When I get you up from every nap and especially in the morning, your arms are over your head. You have the busiest little hands that are constantly moving…even when you are sleeping, your hands are moving all around your face. Miss Peg thinks you were a dancer in your previous life! You still really like the pacifier but have grown to love your thumb even more! You are constantly either sucking your left thumb or your right index finger and middle finger (together). You occasionally giggle at something funny, and have really only “belly laughed” for us a few times...it's hysterical!! One night you were on Daddy’s shoulders and all I said was “giddy-up” and you just died laughing!! We grabbed the video camera and caught you in the act! You look forward to your bottle and when you see it, you automatically open your mouth! You're also trying to hold it now, but we still have to help. We’ve finally got you eating brown rice cereal! For a month now, we’ve been trying to get you to eat and you wanted nothing to do with it! We would put you in your Bumbo seat with nothing on but your diaper and you would be happy as a lark. Once we put the spoon to your lips, you would arch your back, turn your head, your face would turn bright red and you would scream!! We tried white rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, brown rice cereal, pears and prunes. About a week ago, you finally accepted the food and actually liked it! You are so stubborn at such a young age!! You tried applesauce this week too and really liked it…I think we’re finally over the hump! You are going to sleep so well at night…I just rock you for a few minutes and sing a song or two and then put you in the crib. Many times you’re still awake and just drift to sleep on your own. You still fight your naps a little, but most of the time, give in pretty quickly. We took you to see Dr. Mark Scott, who is a pediatric ophthalmologist, to have your hemangioma looked at. He thought that it was fine and wants to recheck it in several months. The weather has been very extreme, but that’s to be expected. You experienced your first snow, though we were only out in it long enough to snap a few pictures. About a week later we had a really warm Saturday, so Daddy and I decided to take you to the park to swing. You really enjoyed swinging. You are also much in love with the good ol’ Jumperoo and talked and screamed for 30 minutes last night…just happy as could be! Sadly, you have been to two funerals in your short life, both for your great-grandparents. Services for my grandfather “Buddy” were on January 16th and you were such a trooper. You were way off your nap and feeding schedule but you just went with the flow and I am so proud of you for just hangin’ in there for us. Daddy and I just grow to love you more and more everyday!! You are our little Pumpkin!

Hugs and kisses!

Mommy’s BEST birthday ever!!!

On my 27th birthday, we got to bring our sweet baby girl home from the hospital! It truly was the best birthday I could ever imagine! Coming home was an adjustment…it took us a few days, but we finally figured out what we were supposed to do as parents!

Now here is my best attempt to fast forward to May 2009, just hitting the highlights and of course sharing my favorite pictures…

Happy Birthday Addison Michelle!

On September 26th, Miss Addison decided to make a surprise entrance into the world. Her original due date was October 18th, but because she was breech we had a c-section scheduled for October 6th. Scott and I found out at 11:45am that we were to be checked into Norman Regional Hospital by 12:15pm (yes that’s only 30 minutes!!!) for a 2:15 c-section! Addison nor I were in immediate danger, but I had felt a decrease in her activity for several days. We left Dr. Parker’s office and immediately called our family and told them to get to Norman ASAP!! Meanwhile, Scott and I ran home and threw our bags in the car! Our sweet neighbor, Suzanne, can by to wish us luck and she took this quick picture while we were rushing around.

We made it back to the hospital on time and shortly after we got checked in, our family started to arrive. It was so comforting to have them all around us. Although it was never scary, I was worried about taking our little one out of the womb so early. I just wanted to be assured that we made the right decision, but of course there was no way of that happening. Everything took place so quickly that Scott and I really didn’t have much time to dwell on what was about to happen. I was taken back to the operating room around 2:20pm and Addison was born at exactly 2:50pm! Scott was such a wonderful support for me and I know I couldn’t have made it through the surgery without him. I requested that after Addison was born, that she and Scott stay with me in the O.R. so I wasn’t alone. It was a very special bonding time for the three of us. I was able to watch as the nurses cleaned her up, weighed her, took her footprints, etc. Scott even cut the umbilical cord!! When my surgery was over, Scott and Addison headed out to meet the family and I was wheeled out to see everyone as well. It was truly the most incredible experience of my life. I know you always hear about how miraculous a birth is, but it is something that you cannot completely understand until it happens to you. It was just amazing to me that I took 9 months for this little perfect thing to grow inside of me and within a matter of minutes, she was here and I got to see her and hear her cry. For being 3 weeks early, she was just wonderful! Her weight was very healthy at 6 pounds, 12 ounces and I think she inherited her mommy’s height…she was 18 ½ inches long. Every single one of her characteristics I have studies so closely, her eyes and eyelashes, her little button nose, her perfectly shaped lips, her little tiny fingers and toes and the cutest double chin you’ve ever seen. I know my opinion is very biased, but I really do think she is the most perfect baby girl I’ve ever seen!!

Preparing for baby…

This is when we told our families we were expecting! It was Easter weekend 2008 and we gave them this Save the Date card!

This is when we found out we were having a girl!

And this is how we told our families…by wearing pink shirts!

We went to Florida in June and decided what our sweet baby girl’s name would be! This picture is now on a large canvas hanging over her crib.

Addison’s nursery was a work in progress for quite a while, but in the end, I loved how it turned out! It’s a mix of new and old pieces to make just the perfect room for our sweet baby. There are many “handmade” touches which make the room even more special.

Throughout my entire pregnancy, Scott was a tremendous help! He assumed the role of “Daddy” quite nicely and is one very proud papa now! When I was pregnant, he would talk to Addison and would always start out by saying, “Addi, this is your Daddy.”
